Pet insurance

Health-style coverage that may reimburse eligible veterinary costs for your pet after deductibles and waiting periods.

Plain definition

Pet insurance is a standalone accident and/or illness product for animals. After enrollment and waiting periods, eligible vet invoices may be reimbursed at a stated percentage subject to deductibles, annual limits, and exclusions such as pre-existing conditions. It does not replace homeowners or renters liability for bites.

Why it matters

Unexpected vet care can be expensive. Understanding reimbursement math and exclusions matters more than marketing ‘best of’ lists.

Example

Your dog needs emergency surgery after swallowing a toy. A pet insurance plan may reimburse a share of eligible costs after the deductible—if the condition is not excluded as pre-existing.

Common misunderstanding

Pet insurance is not dog-bite liability coverage for injuries to people, and it is not automatic coverage for every vet invoice.
