About the desk
We’re here to make policies readable
Insurance paperwork is written for carriers and lawyers first. PolicyPlain is written for the person holding the declarations page at the kitchen table—trying to figure out what they actually bought.
We publish plain-English guides and free decision tools on a steady cadence, then refresh winners when facts change. We do not sell policies, take commissions on quotes, or pretend a calculator is a licensed recommendation.
Who’s behind this
Alex Rivera edits the site. Alex spent years translating dense policy language into notes people could actually use—first for friends, then for readers. At PolicyPlain, the job is the same: clear definitions, honest tradeoffs, and no fake precision.
When something is wrong, we fix it. See our corrections process or email the desk.
What we publish
Guides on auto, home and renters, life, and small-business coverage—plus tools for decoding declarations, stress-testing liability limits, comparing quotes, and walking through claim math.
Updates are a separate dated desk for “what changed” (rules, forms, public data). Evergreen how-to stays in Guides and Topics.
Cost figures are dated educational ranges, not live rates. We cite public sources (for example NAIC or Insurance Information Institute materials) when we lean on them. We are not an insurer, broker, agent, or law firm.
What we won’t do
- Rank “cheapest” carriers for a kickback
- Invent precise premiums without saying it’s a model
- Hide how the site might earn money later
- Substitute for a licensed agent, broker, or attorney
