Personal property (Coverage C)

Home or renters limit for belongings—furniture, clothing, electronics.

Plain definition

Personal property coverage (Coverage C) insures your movable possessions for covered perils, often on named-peril basis in HO-3 unless endorsed to replacement cost on contents. Special sublimits apply to jewelry, cash, business property, and watercraft.

Why it matters

Total loss fire claims need inventories; default sublimits leave high-value categories underinsured unless scheduled.

Example

Burglars steal laptops and bikes totaling $8,000. Coverage C pays covered theft loss above deductible up to policy limits and sublimits.

Common misunderstanding

Roommate property is not covered unless they are insureds or items are scheduled—only named insureds’ property qualifies.
