Employment practices liability insurance (EPLI) helps defend and pay covered claims from employees or applicants alleging wrongful termination, harassment, discrimination, or retaliation. Policies are claims-made in many forms and exclude wage-and-hour violations unless endorsed.
Why it matters
Even small teams face EPL claims that cost tens of thousands in defense before merit is decided. General liability usually excludes employment-related claims.
Example
A former employee sues for alleged age discrimination. EPLI may pay defense counsel and settlements within limits if the claim is covered and reported timely.
Common misunderstanding
EPLI does not replace sound HR policies or workers’ comp for workplace injuries.
