Completed operations
GL coverage for injury or damage from your work after the job is finished.
Plain definition
Completed operations coverage under general liability handles claims that your completed work caused bodily injury or property damage after you left the site—such as a plumbing leak weeks later or an electrical fire after final inspection. It is distinct from ongoing operations at an active job site.
Why it matters
Contractors remain exposed long after punch lists close. Completed ops limits and aggregates apply separately from on-site operations in many CGL forms.
Example
Six months after roof install, wind lifts shingles that damage a neighbor’s car. Completed operations may respond if installation negligence is alleged and covered.
Common misunderstanding
A warranty callback to fix cosmetic issues is not automatically a covered completed-ops claim without qualifying injury or damage.
